Exploring the Annapurna Lowlands with Nepal Mountain Lodges (Ker & Downey)
Beautiful Villages, massive mountains, lush greenery and beautiful landscapes with warm and ever smiling locals Nepal is a trekker’s paradise. However, on the flipside, these treks are quite strenuous and often you have to compromise on the comfort of beds, food and of course the bathrooms en route.
Keeping in mind the difficulty factor long associated with trekking in our country and to redefine the trekking experience along the famous trek route of the Anapurna Lowlands, Nepal Mountain Lodges (Ker & Downey) has come up with a spring of lodges strategically placed throughout the route. These lodges provide you with good food, soft comfortable beds and your own bathroom so you can trek in style, comfort and luxury in nature without the associated hardship.

    Sanctuary Lodge
Located in Birethanti, Sanctuary lodge is blessed with stunning views of the scared Fishtail Mountain in the distance. This stylish lodge at 3,600 feet was hand crafted by local artisans and is one-and-a-half to two hours walk along the beautiful Modi River, passing through quite villages from Nayapul – the starting point of the trek. Alternatively you can hire a 4X4 jeep which will get you there in 30 minutes from Nayapul. This lodge has a total of 18 comfortable rooms with a local touch.

    Gurung Lodge
Tribal-style houses and manicured gardens comprise the Gurung Lodge on the edge of the Majhgaon. Located at 4,620 feet, the views of surrounding valleys are truly incredible and provide excellecnt photographic opportunities. One can get there in an hour drive from Pokhara to Lumle, from where one can take a leisurely walk for around two hours to reach the Gurung Lodge or hire a 4X4 vehicle and reach the lodge in just 30 minutes from Lumle. The infrastructure depicts a typical Gurung house and has 12 neat rooms, all with attached bathrooms.

    Mala Lodge
Cradled in the lap of the Annapurna lowlands amongst rice fields and a quaint bee keeping village of Majhgaon, Mala Lodge is a sanctuary with Mount Manchapuchare looming tall, as if protecting it. This lodge, with 18 typical locally oriented rooms, is the newest addition and will be completed by September end.

    Himalaya Lodge

At a height of 6,500 feet, Himalaya Lodge sits in the shadow of Mount Annapurna, overlooking the Ghandruk Village – a popular recruitment location for the Gurkha Solider regiment. Since this lodge is closer to the mountains, the trek is slightly longer and more difficult to reach than the other lodges, but is suitable for all ages. This 10-room property has one of the best mountain views and numerous sights of villages, agricultural terrace fields and wildlife. The lodge is a six hours walk from nayapukl or you can opt to hire a 4X4 and ride for one hour from Nayapul, after which it is a two hours walk to the lodge.

    Basanta Lodge

With just eight rooms, Basanta Lodge in Dhampus is the smallest lodge from the lot and sits at 4,920 feet. The lodge offers panoramic views of the Phedi and Mardi valley and the entire Annapurna range. Nearby activities include nature walks through thick forests of bamboo, confier and rhododendrons. From Phedi, it is two-and-a-half-hours trek or you can opt to be driven until the lodge, which is a 30-minute drive from Phedi.

    Activities
Alll lodges act as a base and offer beautiful village walks and untouched scenery with breathtaking views of the massive Annapurna Range with the sound of the rushing Modi River. Must see is the Bee Village, located between Sanctuary Lodge and Gurung Lodge. Moreover, all the lodges offer happy hour from 6:00pm to 7:00pm around the lodges’ campfire where you can relax, share stories with fellow travelers and enjoy your drinks, which are all on the house.
    Trekking in the Annapurna region
Considered as the world’s best treks, the Annapurna circuit has everything trekkers would seek on their trek. Massive mountain range, picture perfect landscapes and traditional village houses, the Annapurna circuit pulls trekkers from all over the world to her trail.
Passing through rhododendron and oak forests where the chirping of the birds fill the air, the region is home to animals like musk deer, blood pheasant, multi-coloured Impeyan and kokla. The upper sub-alphine steppe environment harbours rare animals like snow leopards and blue sheep. Another fact about this region is that the Annapurna chain of mountain lies inland which cause large chunk of land to fall in the rain shadow area. Hence, these parts are considerably drier than the southern slopes of the mountains. This leads to unusually diverse landscapes and the possibility of trekking even during the monsoon season.
